Professor Gita Mishra is an NHMRC Leadership Fellow and a Professor of Life Course Epidemiology at the School of Public Health, University of Queensland (UQ). She is Director of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health [TB1] (ALSWH), a national cohort study running since 1996, that has informed the development of policy related to women’s health. Professor Mishra is internationally recognised for her research on life course epidemiology and women’s health. Her work focuses on the links between reproductive factors, from menarche to menopause, and the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

She is on the National Endometriosis Clinical and Scientific Trials (NECST) network advisory committee. Her team recently used ALSWH to produce the official prevalence estimate for diagnosed endometriosis of 11.4% for women aged under 45 years for the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. She also leads the MRFF-funded Genetic, Early life exposures, and Longitudinal Endometriosis Symptoms (GELLES) Study which aims to provide insights on the casual pathways and aetiology of this disease.
